Samsung is developing an AI-equipped smart fridge set to launch in 2024. The tech giant plans to reveal this appliance at CES 2024, featuring an internal camera for recognizing food items. Additionally, Samsung will introduce a connected app suggesting recipes based on available stock, as stated in a blog post.

The 2024 Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+ allows users to mirror their Galaxy phones on the 32-inch Family Hub touchscreen. The fridge display features dedicated apps for TikTok and YouTube videos.

In comparison, the 2023 model featured either an internal camera or Family Hub app integration, incorporating an AI-powered camera for recipe generation. Nonetheless, the 2024 model is undergoing upgrades with additional features.

Via the Family Hub, users can access the Samsung Food app on the fridge, connecting it to their Samsung Health profile. The app then generates recipes tailored to their dietary requirements.

The forthcoming intelligent fridge features an “Image to Recipe” function, optimized with Vision AI, capable of identifying meals and food items from images and creating recipes. The 2024 model also introduces a customization feature that personalizes recipes based on diverse dietary preferences, such as gluten-free, pescatarian, dairy-free, vegan, fusion, and more.

On the Family Hub touchscreen, users have the option to manually input expiration dates for various food items. The fridge will then send notifications on the app just before the expiration of each item.

Nevertheless, the forthcoming model does have certain constraints. For instance, Samsung notes that its Vision AI feature can recognize a maximum of 33 food items. Therefore, users should not anticipate the system to identify exotic food items.
