To “meet users where they are” and become part of their everyday lives, a rival to the industry-leading OpenAI wants to integrate

Anthropic, an OpenAI competitor, has introduced its Claude chatbot to iPhones, posing a serious threat to ChatGPT. Anthropic, run by ex-OpenAI staffers who left over differences with CEO Sam Altman, provides a product that is more intelligent than ChatGPT in several areas. These days, Anthropic wants to draw in regular consumers.

Anthropic’s Scott White underlined how important cellphones are to people’s modern technological interactions. He underlined that in order to make Claude a true AI assistant, it is critical to interact with users on their mobile devices. White said, “We’re giving people direct control over Claude’s power.” Convenience is important, but so is incorporating Claude into our day-to-day activities.”

On its website, Claude offers three versions of its third major language model: the quick and simple “haiku,” the more sophisticated and slower “sonnet,” and the full “opus” system, which is only available to paying customers.

Being the first artificial intelligence system to do so, that system overtook GPT-4 to take the top spot in the LMSys chatbot rating. It attracted notice due to its large “context window,” which shows the amount of a discussion it can recall at once. With Opus’s word count of about 160,000, a user can submit a large novel and ask further questions.

On user devices, ChatGPT hasn’t faced much competition up until now, though. OpenAI is still one of the only cutting-edge AI models with a consumer-friendly software that was first released for iOS in May of last year.

According to Anthropic, the Claude app will provide users with new functions that go beyond basic usability. White said, “For example, the Claude iOS app can, with user consent, access the device’s camera and photo library.”

“After a meeting, a business user could take a picture of a whiteboard diagram and ask Claude to highlight the main ideas, making it easier to share and use crucial information,” he stated. In a similar vein, a customer might take a picture of a plant they come across while hiking and ask Claude to identify the species and provide more details about its traits and natural habitat.”

The startup is growing its business products beyond the iOS app. With the “team” plan, corporate users can buy chatbot access for any member of their staff.

“Our mission at Anthropic is to lead the way in AI safety and research. This is not an endeavour that is best pursued theoretically. We think that by actively participating at the forefront, we can only have a positive impact on the industry’s trajectory and promote a drive towards the highest level of AI safety,” said White.

The market leader appears to be being impacted by this competition. OpenAI changed its guidelines on Wednesday to allow customers to view their entire ChatGPT history without asking permission to have the firm utilise their discussions for training purposes.
