The Meta-owned microblogging platform Threads is introducing a much-requested feature, enabling users to independently delete their Threads account without having to delete their associated Instagram account. Previously, Threads required users to delete their profiles along with their Instagram accounts due to the tight integration between the two platforms, encompassing profiles, profile icons, and followers.

The implementation of this feature is currently in progress. If you want to remove your Threads account without impacting your Instagram account, follow these steps:

Instructions for independently deleting or deactivating your Threads account, separate from Instagram:

Steps

  1. Start by downloading and installing the most recent version of the Threads app from either the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
  2. Launch the Threads app and go to Settings.
  3. Find the newly added option named “Delete or Deactivate Profile.”
  4. You will be taken to a new page displaying “Deactivate or Delete” choices, providing information about deactivating and deleting your Threads account. On this page, you’ll encounter two options: “Deactivate account” for temporary disablement and “Delete account” for permanent removal.
  5. Opt for “Deactivate account” if you want to temporarily disable your Threads account, or choose “Delete account” for permanent removal.

Please be aware that this feature is currently in the initial phase of deployment, and Threads generally introduces new features in a gradual manner. It might take some time before it becomes accessible to all users. If the new feature is not visible in your app at the moment, kindly wait and revisit in a few days.
