Adobe Premiere Pro will soon feature enhanced audio editing, including new fade handles, tagging, effect badges, and more

In anticipation of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, Adobe has unveiled the beta release of enhanced audio editing features in Premiere Pro. The aim is to streamline and expedite the video production workflow, introducing interactive fade handles, tagging tools, effect badges, and redesigned waveforms, as outlined in a press release.

These updates empower both beginners and seasoned editors to efficiently edit high-quality audio within Premiere Pro. This substantial update to the widely-used video editing software not only seeks to save professionals valuable time but also strives to enhance accessibility for newcomers.

Among the standout features is the introduction of interactive fade handles. Editors can now effortlessly craft personalized audio transitions by dragging clip handles, streamlining the process of creating fades in and out. This represents a significant improvement over the previously more laborious method of applying fades.

Additionally, Adobe has implemented AI-driven categorization of audio clips into dialogue, music, sound effects, or ambience. The categorized tags are presented through new icon badges, allowing editors to quickly access relevant controls for each clip type with a single click. This streamlined system replaces the need to navigate through menus, expediting the audio sweetening process.

Effect badges perform a comparable streamlining role. Visual indicators on the timeline now reveal which clips have applied effects. These badges also offer swift access to effect parameters, eliminating the necessity to search through the interface.

Moreover, the revamped waveforms dynamically adjust in size according to track height modifications and showcase brighter, more legible colors. This enhanced visualization aids in identifying audio issues and facilitates a quicker understanding of sequences at a glance.

In addition to the beta features, Adobe announced that the AI-driven Enhance Speech tool will be accessible to all Premiere Pro users starting in February. This tool can effortlessly eliminate undesired background noise and enhance poorly recorded dialogue with a simple click.

“Sound imbues meaning and enhances the impact of film and video—it possesses the capability to narrate a story and evoke emotions in ways that visuals alone cannot,” expressed Ashley Still, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Adobe Creative Cloud. “We take pride in equipping filmmakers with innovative workflows that enhance the intuitiveness of audio editing. Whether individuals are new to audio or seasoned professionals, Premiere Pro facilitates a quicker and easier search for the perfect tool.”
