An analysis of LinkedIn profiles within the tech sector reveals that a majority of former Apple employees tend to gravitate toward joining Google. The study also notes instances of individuals transitioning from Google to Apple. Nevertheless, the predominant trend among Apple’s workforce suggests a history of employment with Intel, Microsoft, or Amazon.

The Switch on Business team scrutinized LinkedIn profiles of employees from various tech companies. Their initial inquiry aimed to ascertain the current workforce at Google (Alphabet), Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, IBM, Tesla, Oracle, Netflix, Nvidia, Salesforce, Adobe, Intel, and Uber.

For each pair of companies, the team conducted searches for employees currently working at each tech giant who had previously been employed at the other company in the seed list. Subsequently, they calculated the quantity and percentage of existing employees at each tech giant with prior experience at other tech giants. The comprehensive dataset enabled them to present detailed breakdowns of prevalent career pathways among tech giants.

Apple actively pursues talent from Amazon, Adobe, and Google, while departing Apple employees show a higher inclination to join Google

Apple tends to recruit from a select group of ten tech companies, including Amazon, Adobe, Google, IBM, Intel, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, Oracle, and Tesla. There is a notable preference for hiring Intel employees, aligning with Apple’s acquisition of Intel’s smartphone modem business in 2019 for developing its radio chips.

Upon leaving Apple, employees frequently move to Google, followed by Amazon as the next popular destination. The top ten companies attracting former Apple employees include Google, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Tesla, Nvidia, Salesforce, Adobe, Intel, and Oracle.

Google places high importance on recruiting former Apple employees

According to the study, Google places considerable emphasis on recruiting talent from Apple and extends its hiring initiatives to other major tech companies, including Microsoft. Google receives an estimated two million job applications each year, leading to the hiring of approximately 12,018 individuals with previous experience at Microsoft.

Meta has the highest percentage of employees with prior experience in the tech industry, standing at 26.51%, followed by Google at 24.15%, and IBM at 2.28%. Notably, 3,363 individuals who were formerly employed by Google have transitioned to Meta for new career opportunities.
